Clear Objectives and ProgressionMay 17, 2024
Players love challenges, especially when they can work or compete with their friends. If you provide clear goals and a sense of progression for players to strive towards, this could increase engagement and retention in your room. This can include level objectives, achievements, or a storyline.

  • Collecting Items: Players can earn achievements when they reach certain milestones, finish levels, or complete missions.
  • Earn Achievements: Create tasks or milestones in your room for players to accomplish and earn rewards.
    • For example, players in puzzle rooms earn achievements for solving puzzles within time limits or without hints. In combat arenas, achievements are given for defeating enemies, achieving high scores, or surviving for a set time, boosting engagement and replay value.
  • Room Progression: Design your room to unlock new challenges or areas as players progress, keeping them engaged and motivated to explore further.
    • For example, use progression in their experiences to motivate players by unlocking new areas like forests, caves, or mountains as players complete tasks and interact with NPCs. As players progress, they gain experience points, equipment upgrades, and new abilities, empowering them to tackle tougher challenges and become stronger heroes.
    • You can use progression to gradually introduce gameplay features, but avoid gating the fun too far from where players start!
