Rooms 2.0 Known Issues and FAQs
A running list of issues we're working on and answers to your questions.
Known IssuesDuring the Alpha phase of Rooms 2.0, there are some known issues that we are currently working on. As we get your feedback we will track and prioritize them.
  • Rotator and Piston Gizmos
    • They function like containers for all non-shape objects
    • When placing a shape as a child under a Rotator or Piston Gizmo, an extra container is automatically created for the shape
    • In the future, a shape can be placed directly under a Rotator or Piston gizmo
  • Shapes at Room Level
    • When placing a shape at room level, a container is automatically created for the shape
    • In the future, you will be able to place shapes directly at room level
  • Circuit boards sometimes get moved to strange locations when the object they’re attached to becomes the child of a container
  • Cloning can be buggy, especially in multiplayer. Often, saving your room, leaving, and returning will clear up any issues with cloned objects.
  • Rec Room Studio: all released features and known issues can be found here
FAQs
What are the permissions on Rooms 2.0? Can I create with my friends who don’t have Rooms 2.0 access?
  • If you have R2 access, you can see and access R2 rooms you own or co-own.
  • If you don't have R2 access, you can see and access R2 rooms you co-own.
  • If you have R2 access, you can invite anyone to join you in your R2 room.
  • If you have R2 access, you can invite anyone to your R2 room through a meetup code
What can be moved over from a Rooms 1.0 to Rooms 2.0 room?As of right now, there is no ability to convert a Room 1.0 to Room 2.0. Soon, you will be able to attempt invention imports from Rooms 1.0 into your 2.0 Rooms which should help with the re-creation process (only R2-compatible objects inside that invention will survive the import). There are fundamental differences in the backend of Rooms 2.0 which prevent a simple conversion process. That being said, Rooms 2.0 is the next major version of room creation so, eventually, all creation will begin there. For now:Rooms 1.0 will still be the best option if you are looking to update an existing room or start a 'serious' project from scratch.Since Rooms 2.0 is currently in alpha, it is more appropriate for testing or work that is not possible to achieve in Rooms 1.0. Rooms 2.0 will become more stable over time and we'll make an announcement once we feel it's ready for prime time.
Can I publish rooms?Yes! Once published, your Rooms 2.0 projects will be available to the public.
How do I know if I have access to Rooms 2.0? You will know when you have been given access because you will see an in-game notification from Rec Room titled 'You've been selected for Rooms 2.0!' and you will see the 'Room 2.0 Template' in the Create > Choose Base Room section of your watch.Creators with more published rooms and more time spent across all of those rooms will get access first, and we will work our way towards more broad access from there. We will make announcements in #rooms-2-updates when new batches of creators are given access and they will receive the in game notification mentioned above.
What is okay to share with the creative community? The Rec Room team is ok with creators sharing screenshots, videos, and other media of the Rooms 2.0 alpha. You are welcome to share your impressions of the alpha and specific features but PLEASE ensure you make it clear in your posts or comments to the community that this is Alpha content and is very subject to change / Rooms 2.0 may not look anything like this at full launch. If you want to post someone else’s Rooms 2.0 work please check with that creator!
What about Storefronts? We are planning to bring Storefronts into Rooms 2.0 but want to take the opportunity to gather feedback to see if there are ways we can improve it to meet Creators’ needs first. Stay tuned!
When can we expect Studio to have full Rooms 2.0 support?Rec Room Studio now supports the most common Rooms 2.0 operations at an alpha level. Including Maker Pen shapes rendering, Test Subroom, and Hierarchy editing, though not all operations are fully supported in the Hierarchy Editor. Room Offers and Inventory along with Player Property support will be added soon!
Where did Roles go?They’re gone! Instead you can use Player Properties (stuff like Player Set Walk Speed) to directly change most of the settings Roles controlled. These will continue to roll out over the next couple of months - let us know if there’s anything you especially want to see!
Some palette content is missing? We are sunsetting certain legacy content in Rooms 2.0 in order to focus on new capabilities. Tell us if you miss any palette content in particular here. We're starting from a limited set of supported content and working up from there.
