Run the Block BTS!
Learn about remixing our first copy-able RRO and the features that went into creating it!
Run the Block, our newest Rec Room Original created in Rooms 2.0, is out! This action-packed parkour experience is not only available for everyone to play, but it’s our first copyable RRO - which means you can take it and add some twists to make it your own!
Why did we make Run the Block Copyable? We’re always looking for ways to make creating in Rec Room easier and faster for our community. Many creators have shared their interest in seeing how RROs are built and having the opportunity to customize them. That’s why we’ve introduced copyable rooms like EvergrownPVP and BonkysInferno, giving creators a chance to dive into the mechanics behind our games and use them as a foundation for their own unique projects. Now, with Run The Block, you can go even further—exploring the inner workings of a full-scale Rec Room Original and transforming it into something entirely your own!
What can I do with a copyable room?A copyable room means you can duplicate an entire room, customize it, and transform it into your own unique experience. Run the Block is a parkour game, but you can turn it into a PVP room, change the map to a fantasy castle theme, or even build your own challenges. Possibilities are endless, but even more so when you have Rec Room Studio. Here’s some examples of the advantages you get with Rec Room Studio:
  • With the Maker pen, you can edit player abilities, modify the public events and challenges within the game or change Run the Block’s Storefront!
  • With Rec Room Studio, you’re able to actually edit the map itself, add new player abilities, and add your own grind rails
To go more in depth on how to do some of these things, we’ve written out a walkthrough on remixing Run the Block with both the Maker pen and Rec Room Studio.

Can I ever edit the Run the Block map in-game?We understand that creators want a way to edit the map within the game as well, which is why we will be coming out with a new template inspired by Run the Block soon! While it won’t include every element of Run the Block in it, you can still tweak the map in-game and take advantage of the mechanics to set up your own time trials, collectible systems and more. We’ll announce in the Discord and more channels when this happens, so keep an eye out!
What cool features came out in Run the Block?Like all of our other RROs, we always aim to introduce new tools and features that can help you make your own rooms just as great! With Run the Block, we’ve really focused on adding new configurations and chips that spiced up player locomotion to make “running” the block way more fun!
What’s next?We want Run the Block to be more than just a new RRO. We want the community to feel inspired to learn, remix, and innovate using the tools we’ve built. Whether you’re customizing Run the Block with the Maker pen, diving deeper into Rec Room Studio for advanced edits, or preparing to create with the upcoming template, the options are boundless. So what’s next is really up to you! We can’t wait to see the amazing twists the community will add to Run the Block and how you’ll use its mechanics and features to create entirely new experiences.
