Room boost chips are expanding to all creators in Rec Room, along with a special weekly leaderboard challenge to celebrate the roll-out!
Update 1/30/2026:
Room Boosts have been temporarily disabled while the Rec Room team works on further updates to the system. At this time, new boosts cannot be purchased, but boosts in your inventory can still be applied to rooms.
Room Boosts Are Expanding!Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen an incredible amount of excitement around Room Boosts, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Players are eager to support the rooms they love, and creators are already finding creative ways to reward their communities. So today, we’re excited to share the next step in the evolution of Room Boosts: room boost chips are expanding to all creators in Rec Room, along with a special weekly leaderboard challenge to celebrate the launch. This isn’t the final form of Room Boosts - but it’s a big step forward, and a fun way to let everybody try out boosting in their rooms.
A Quick Refresher: What Are Room Boosts?Room Boosts are a way for players to directly support their favorite rooms. They work a bit like Discord Server Boosts: as a room accumulates more Boosts, it unlocks recognition, perks, and new ways for creators to reward their communities. With Room Boosts, you can:
Support rooms you love Boosting a room helps it stand out, improves discoverability, and unlocks new perks.
Reward your community Creators can thank supporters for boosting using in-room rewards, VIP access, and custom experiences powered by boost chips.
Celebrate great rooms Highly-boosted rooms earn medals, visibility, and special placements in the Rec Center.
What’s New: Boost Chips forAllCreatorsOn 12/17 - we’re expanding access to Room Boost chips to every creator in Rec Room. That means:
Any room owner can now detect when players boost their room
Any room can reward boosters with in-room perks
Players can spend Boosts in any room they want to support.
There are a few limitations right now, though - especially around room badges - and that’s where our leaderboard challenge comes in.
Introducing the Room Boost Weekly Leaderboard ChallengeRight now, room badges are processed manually. That makes it difficult to automatically grant badges to every room that crosses a boost threshold - especially as boosts expand to everyone.Rather than delay access, we’re turning this moment into something fun. Here’s how the challenge will work:When Room Boosts become available to everyone on 12/17, we’ll introduce a new leaderboard section to the community board in the Rec Center.
This leaderboard will show the Top 10 Most Boosted Rooms in a given week.
It will update daily, so you can see which rooms are on track to be in the Top 10.
At the close of the week, the Most Boosted room of the week will get a door in the Rec Center.
Weekly Badge RewardsAlso during this special challenge period:
The top 10 most boosted rooms of the week will be granted a custom room badge.
If your room already has a badge and finishes in the Top 10 again, you can earn additional badges, up to 3 total.
Badges can then be granted to players by the room owner, as a way to recognize players in their community.
This challenge is expected to run for ~4 weeks while we queue up more Room Boosts changes. It’s not the final version of Room Boosts - but it lets us:
Open the system to more creators - something many of you have been asking for
Celebrate standout rooms with more visibility
Gather data about how boosts will work in the larger Rec Room eco-system, so we can make improvements and add more features to Boosting soon.
What’s Next for Room Boosts?Over the coming weeks, we’ll be improving automation around badges and rewards, and adding more value for both room owners and boosters. When those improvements are ready, we’ll update everyone with what’s next.In the meantime - boost your favorite rooms, reward your community with boost chips, and we’ll see you on the weekly leaderboard!
